26. Lox and cream cheese bagel
All very pleasant. Smoked salmon, cream cheese and a few capers to give it extra fishiness, all crammed into a poppy seed bagel. No steak sandwich but still enjoyable. 6/10
Having purchased the book '101 Sandwiches' - Classic recipes from around the World. I am week by week, working my way through the book and will blog each sandwich as it is consumed. I would love to know about your favourite sandwich ideas/recipes. Send me a tweet @YT40

25. Philly Cheesesteak
25. Philly cheesesteak
Fried strips of steak with green pepper to which you melt cheese before putting it in a sub roll. What's not to like? Would have had some onion as well, but I only had one left and it was rotten when I cut into it. Perfectly delicious without it, I will be making this one again! 9/10

24. Croque Monsieur
The recipe suggested making a bechemel sauce and laying it on top, not for me! You can't beat a gently fried ham and cheese sandwich, nothing else needs to be done to it and I don't care what the French say. Comfort food! 6/10

23. Mozzarella in carozza
23. Mozarella in carozza
You slice mozarella, put it in white bread and seal around the edges. You dip it in flour and egg and fry it. Basically it's eggy bread with cheese in the middle. Nice idea but the filling is bland despite generous seasoning. I had to liven it up with tomato sauce. 3/10

22. Lobster roll
22. Lobster roll
This was quite good fun as I've never cooked lobster before, I know - What a shallow life I've lead. I bought a lobster tale, rosted it, mixed it with mayo, lemon juice and seasoning and served it in a submarine roll with chives for garnish. Really nice actually although expensive for a simple lunchtime roll. 7/10

21. Fish stick sandwich
Fishfingers, lettuce and mayo in a sandwich. Comfort food at its best, the occasional indulgence that you had when you were a kid. Don't let any eating establishments try to ponse this up, it's fine as it is. 6/10

20. Spamwich
20. Spamwich
Ahh, school dinners. This brought it all flooding back to me. Really can't remember when I last had Spam, I had some truly horrible meals with it when I was young. Fortunately, nostalgia took over here. The salad and mayonnaise picked it up and for a one off, it wasn't too bad. Thankfully the other school dinner horror of chocolate sponge with lumpy chocolate custard will not come up in this book. 5/10

19. The Luther Burger
19. The Luther Burger
A burger, crispy bacon, cheese all inside a glazed doughnut. I'm sorry, but burger in a glazed doughnut???!!? Only the Americans! I tried it as it's in the book, but this really doesn't work for me. The overwhelming sensation is the sweetness of the doughnut. Arguably, it works with bacon but sweetness and a burger are just not a match. A once in a lifetime experience. 3/10

18. Francesinha
18. Francesinha
This isn't a sandwich, it's a full blown meal. You fry off minute steak, chorizo and smoked sausage and remove. You make the sauce with sugar, tinned tomatoes and beer thickened with cornflour. I used sourdough bread, you put on the meat mixture, top it with a slice of ham and a slice of Emmenthal and having topped the sandwich, you pour the sauce over the top and bake it for 20 minutes.
Ridiculous in content, I've had enough protein to last me the week but hell, it was gorgeous. Probably only to be eaten once in a lifetime, this is a dish from Portugal. I must visit........ 8/10

17. Yakisoba pan
So you fry strips of bacon in a wok until just crispy and remove, then fry some carrot and green pepper strips, not allowing them to go soft. Fry some straight to wok egg noodles, return the bacon and veg and cover with a sauce made from soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil and sugar.
I expected this to be way too salty but I have to say that it was absolutely gorgeous. Good mixture of textures and really nice taste.
A good enough reason t start 'Turning Japanese' as someone once sung.

16. Crisp sandwich
16. Crisp sandwich
After last week saying that I couldn't see the point of a chip sandwich, I very much get the whole Crisp sandwich thing. It gives a different texture that livens up the sandwich, gives a flavour boost to an otherwise mundane filling and I love the fact that if a sandwich is turning out to be a bit dull, slinging in a few crisps can make all the difference. Went for the classic cheese with cheese and onion crisps today. Knocked it out the ball park! 8/10

15. Chip butty
Of course it was nice, seasoned chips and ketchup in a sandwich! But to be honest, I don't really get it. Chips are nice enough by themselves or being dipped in stuff. A couple of slices of bread around them doesn't really bring anything to the party. 6/10

Extra: Banana & plain crisp
Extra: Banana & plain crisp
My first sandwich made after a suggestion. Thanks to Helen. I was very unsure about this but it does actually work. You lose the saltiness of the crisps, instead it basically just tastes like a banana sandwich with an added texture change. Go on, you have to try it....
Tweet me your favourite sandwich and I'll give it a go.

14. Breakfast bacon, cheese and bubble roll
Firstly you make bubble and squeak with potato, cabbage, spring onion and wholegrain mustard. Make them into patties and fry along with bacon and a fried egg. Toast a roll, add a slice of cheese, fill with your fried items and add the sauce of your choice. Absolutely gorgeous but should not be eaten more than once in your life. 8/10

13. Baked bean toastie
13. Baked bean toastie
If I had to choose a final meal, it would probably involve baked beans. I have always loved them although it has to be Heinz. Having said all this, I've never loved them in a toasted sandwich, they somehow lose their taste for me. Anyway, this version with cheese and a dash of Worcester sauce was harmless but didn't have wow factor. 6/10

12. Pork Belly Mantou
12. Pork Belly Mantou
Here's a first, had to make my own rolls for this one. Quite good fun actually and despite being nervous at having to steam them, they really work with the caramelised pork belly and spring onions. A slightly surprising success. 8/10

10. Mexican Torta
10. Mexican Torta
Basically this is mashed avocado, topped with fried chorizo, topped with tomato salsa and then a layer of refried beans. All served in a baguette, it was an issue keeping all of the filing in but the taste was lovely. The chilli heat and spiciness of the chorizo was offset by the salsa and lime. Tasty genuinely Mexican and despite the messy looking picture, was a lovely sandwich. 8/10

9. Katsu Sando
9. Katsu Sando
A pork chop without the bone deep fried in Panko breadcrumbs and served with shredded white cabbage and Tonkatsu sauce that I made myself. A Japanese style sandwich, verged on the glorious although the bread fell apart somewhat. Loved the sauce that gave it a nice little kick and the pork was fabulously crunchy giving the sandwich a great texture. 8/10

8. Dill, shrimp and egg Smorrebrod
Actually, really nice. Suggested that it by made on rye bread, I used a rye roll. You get the classic egg mayonnaise taste, who doesn't love prawns and the lemon juice giving a lovely bit of acidity. I should have used more prawns for my topping but hey, you live and learn.

7. Cucumber sandwich
Last in the finger sandwich section. You have to ask yourself why these are so classic. Putting salt on the sliced cucumber and adding lemon juice lifted it a little but this is no crowd pleaser. 4/10

6. Radish and anchovy butter
Second in the trio of finger sandwiches. The anchovy butter gave a subtle saltiness with a hint of fish and the radish gave it an interesting texture with a crisp crunch. It wasn't horrible but didn't exactly burst with flavour. 4/10

5. Egg and cress finger sandwiches
5. Egg and cress finger sandwiches
There's something vaguely relaxing and enjoyable about hard-boiling an egg. These look less than appertising on the plate, mainly due to turning them into finger sandwiches and having too much filling. I'm not the biggest fan of egg sandwiches but this was quite tasty and the black pepper that I added definitely lifted the sandwich.

4. The Reuben
4. The Reuben
Simple to make. Buttered rye bread with thousand island dressing, we used pickled red cabbage, we used Emmental cheese and a few slices of salt beef. You toast the sandwich with the buttered side of the bread on the outside. This didn't quite pack the punch that I was suspecting. Nice enough and a warm sandwich is always comforting, I found the overwhelming flavour to be the rye bread itself although the pickled cabbage gave a nice texture contrast. 6/10

3. Caramel Pork Banh Mi
3. Caaramel Pork Ban Mi
You have to make a caramel and then slow cook pork belly cubes for about 30 minutes with spring onion, fish sauce and peppercorns. Inside the baguette is mayonnaise, pickled vegetables (That I'd kept from week 1's sandwich), caramel pork, chilli, cucumber and I used loveage instead of the suggested coriander leaves.
This is absoultely gorgeous, the chilli and peppercorn gave it a real heat, the pork fell apart as it was so tender and the cucumber gave a warm sandwich a coolness that cut through the chilli heat. Quite salty due to the fish sauce but this was delish!!!! 9/10

2. Falafel pita bread
2. Falafel pita bread
I actually pickled my own vegetables for this. Radish, carrot & cucumber. Cooked some falafel balls in the oven, placed it in lengthwise cut pita bread with a few pickled vegetbles and covered with tahini sauce. Put some lettuce in as well. I wasn't sure I was going to love this but it really grew on me. Different textures and the pickled vegetables gave it some sourness that cut through what could have been dry falafel. The sauce gave the sandwich a hot and cold contrast. 7/10

1. BLT
The humble BLT is a great way to start, I've made it many times before but you know you're on safe ground. When I make it, I just use the traditional 3 ingredients. The addition of mayonnaise and black pepper made a real difference. My one small complaint is that the filling kept falling out of the sandwich. Taste was great though. 8/10
